Since I've had my flight into health, I feel energized and ready to get back into the swing of things. Daniel and I headed to the River North HERE area of Denver to explore the street art and other possibilities for backgrounds. New street art and sculptures are continually popping up and the colors are magnificent. I discovered this gold beaded gown at an estate sale last summer during the time that gorgeous blogger friend Jean of Dross Into Gold HERE was visiting. When I did a quick "try on" of the dress, she mentioned that it would "shine" with a jean
Thank you so much for your birthday wishes and your support around my illness. As always, it's my readers and commenters who make blogging rich and worthwhile. I'm feeling much better and ready to move into the next year with a renewed sense of appreciation for my health and my relationships. Over the past year I have had the pleasure of working with the talented Denver icon and designer Brooks Luby of Brooks LTD HERE. I have been honored to wear and be photographed in many of her beautiful and unique creations. Over and above the projects that we have worked
I have always loved celebrating my birthday and the birthdays of loved ones. It's the only day of the year that's dedicated to the life of the person of honor. As I age, it has become even more important, as I feel fortunate to be living life to the fullest. It's a privilege to be alive, as so many of my loved ones are no longer here. However, this year presented a surprise that I didn't expect. I became ill seven days ago and yesterday was diagnosed with bronchitis. I don't remember being as sick as I have been over
What do silver boots have to do with changing habits, you may ask. And my answer is, absolutely nothing. In my flow of consciousness, the two came together organically in one post. The silver boots were purchased last spring at half price at my shoe repair shop. It was one of those moments that produced a "gasp" when I saw them, and they have been waiting since then for the perfect outfit to enable their debut. I have no plans to change my habit of looking for and finding treasures in unexpected places, but I do want to transform patterns
I mentioned recently on Style Crone that I was reading the book Dancing Light by 98 year old Tao Porchon-Lynch. I have finished the story of Tao's incredible life and portions of the book play in my mind as I move forward. She is another reminder that aging is a mindset and that we don't have to limit ourselves at any age. Tao grew up in India and has been defined as a yoga master, actress, model, producer, dancer and activist. During her life she marched with Gandhi, put her life in danger as she participated in the French Resistance during World
Several weeks ago Mr. J and I traveled to Mexico for some warm weather and fun. It was wonderful to escape the cold of our Colorado winter and to take in the colorful views and experience the warmth of the Mexican people. I didn't take photos of the sights, but I did keep up with Instagram along the way. Other than that it was a time to soak up the culture and be in the moment. The wind on a rooftop revealed the Caribbean Sea in the background and took my scarf on a ride. Photos by Mr J A
This photo shoot was precipitated by a Monday morning jury duty experience. The Denver City and County Building and the surrounding area looked to be a location with endless possibilities for background opportunities. Everywhere I go these days includes a visual survey of my environment. The next day Daniel and I found ourselves back in the center of Denver, with its landmarks and historical buildings. I adorned myself in layers of blue, originating from Denver estate sales, a Mexican street vendor, a Paris hat boutique, a Minneapolis consignment shop and Target. I have always loved diversity. The blue fabric toque
February's Hat Attack was gifted by the gorgeous and generous instagrmmer Silvana of embellish_or_perish HERE. Silvana is from Australia and has a love for headwear, sunnies, color, texture, pattern, vintage and thrift shopping, and having fun with style. When I opened her cleverly wrapped package and laid eyes upon this vintage turban I was instantly in love with the beautiful shimmery fabric which covered its interesting and unique shape. The touch of pearls which embellish this piece of art as headwear called for more of the same as a frame. The vintage black velvet coat with large collar and vintage white
For several years when visiting NYC I have connected with the talented photographer Denton Taylor HERE and his beautiful wife Teresa. I met this dynamic couple through the amazing blogger and style influencer Sylvia of 40+Style HERE. Denton provides Sylvia with photographs of stylish New Yorkers for her blog, maintains a brilliant presence on Instagram HERE, and photographs some of my favorite Instagrammers. On my most recent trip to NYC we met in Central Park on a chilly morning in December for photos and fun. Denton and Teresa are both kind, generous and extremely witty. They are New Yorkers to
Sometimes small changes make me feel like I'm"blowing in the wind." Something that's not life or death, but that alters my routine and my choices beyond my control. My yoga schedule has, for the past decade, offered a 9am class. I attended this class faithfully unless a conflict interfered. If so, I would catch another class later in the day. On January 1st this changed and it's been an adjustment to the scaffolding of my life. In the process of adapting my daily routine to continue my treasured yoga practice, I've noticed the stages that I've experienced internally in response
I love the art created by my friend Carol Markel, talented milliner, artist and blogger at Femme et Fleur HERE, I have a small collection of her hats and manikin heads. They are statement pieces and I wear her headwear frequently. They are treasured for their vibrant colors, unique shapes and impeccable workmanship. During my most recent visit to NYC, I was in search of one of her amazing necklaces. I chose the black and white beads with the "diamond bauble" in the middle. It caught my gaze instantly, but I examined several other pieces that were of varying colors. In the end,
It's hard to believe that this is the last post of 2016. The years fly by at breakneck speed, and change is the only constant. It's cold outside, and Daniel and I decided to shoot in my home, surrounded by the warmth of the dark red dining room walls. Wearing estate sale silk and satin in a room filled with recycled pieces mirrors my love for treasure hunting in unusual places. It's a time to reflect on the past and set intentions for the future. The Winter Solstice has passed and the long march toward the light and the unknown
One of the most wonderful things about blogging is that I have documentation of experiences that I can always look back on and recall how they made me feel. These peak experiences include the beautiful, intelligent, creative, talented and interesting people who I have met since I began blogging in 2010. Unfortunately I was unable to include photos of everyone who I admire, as my focus was constantly diverted. That means I will catch you next time! My trip to New York was filled with heartwarming and thrilling moments. In this post I capture a few of these exhilarating points
Several weeks ago I received a generous message from my fabulous blogger friend Jean of Dross Into Gold HERE, inviting me to the opening reception of Mes Demoiselles Imperfectly Perfect: Mannequins/Art/Fashion HERE. The art show at Nine Gallery in NYC, in collaboration with Ralph Pucci HERE, was to be presented by her friend Rebecca Moses HERE on December 8th. My first response was that I couldn't possibly make it. It was the holiday season and I don't usually travel spontaneously. I tend to plan my trips and my outfits in advance! However, the idea of traveling to NY to a show by Rebecca
I've been blogging for nearly six and one half years now, and during this period of time I've learned so much and have met a multitude of incredible people who I would not know but for the existence of Style Crone. Blogging has brought me many gifts that I appreciate every day. However, the art of writing is its own special challenge. Prior to blogging, I wrote as a health care provider, documenting relevant information about patients in their medical records. Or writing descriptions of projects that would facilitate system change in the medical environment. It was more technical in
December's Hat Attack features a collaboration with Iva Ksenevich HERE, an international milliner based in Moscow, who has customers in France, Italy, the USA, Shanghai, Finland, Serbia, Russia, Germany, Libya, Israel, Australia etc. I met Iva on Instagram, and was fascinated with her magnificent designs. I'm honored to wear Iva's creation for this month's Hat Attack. "This hat is a special piece from my collection '13,' which consists of 13 hats. All the hats have geometry, which I love. This particular violet one was my experimentation with static geometry and movement. This piece was also featured at the Fashion Crowd Challenge
In the spirit of the season of gratitude, I am wishing my followers a peaceful and meaningful holiday, however you celebrate, or don't. Thank you for your support and for following Style Crone, which would not exist without you. On the day after Thanksgiving in the US, I am thankful to Ari Seth Cohen of Advanced Style HERE for the opportunity to contribute to his Advance Love Project HERE. It was an honor and privilege to collaborate with Bill and Eva Kobus-Webb, and write the following interview about their inspiring life and their love. It has been one of the
The weather has been unseasonably warm and the Colorado earth is parched. The dry wind whips through my garden, and takes everything in its path that is available and ready for a ride to another location. And then it snowed. Daniel and I took off to play at the Cheeseman Park Pavilion, which provided shelter from the white winter wonderland and the wind. We had to keep moving because it was bone-chilling cold and the wind cut like a knife. The day before had been 80 degrees. I was in denial that it was time to search through my winter
I've been a fan of estate sales since the mid 70's. The people who frequent this unique and interesting shopping destination are a diverse crew. Antique dealers, pickers, neighbors of the identified house, random regulars, collectors or someone who drove by and stopped in on a lark. I know many of the people who work for the businesses who host the sales. The entire scene is like theatre and I always enjoy the show. Most of the vintage pieces that comprise my collections were discovered at estate sales. The components of the ensemble that I wore for this post were
I met Colorado fashion designer Brooks of Brooks LTD HERE about a year ago in Denver at the "Cuffs" workshop presented by Debra Rapoport HERE visual performance artist and hatmaker from NYC. Since that time, we have been working together on projects. It's been an exhilarating and productive collaboration, which has included a spin as a model for her mother-of-the bride photo shoots. Recently I was visiting her at her studio and my gaze rested upon this gorgeous kimono/opera coat constructed of luxurious silk fabric. Brooks states that "the pattern was designed specifically for large prints. The oversized re-embroidered floral pattern
