Photo By Daniel The book launch for blogger, author and documentarian Ari Seth Cohen's new book Advanced Style: Older and Wiser HERE took place on Tuesday, April 26th at Strand Bookstore HERE in NYC. Not wanting to miss this exciting event, Mr J, Daniel and I traveled to NY. The evening was even more amazing than we expected! Photo By Daniel With the gorgeous Valerie Von Sobel HERE on the cover, the book exceeds all expectations. The pages are filled with inspiring images of stylish men and women from across the globe. Ari continues to change the perception of older people with his photography
May's Hat Attack is a headpiece created by Heather Stoten of The Hat Workshop HERE in Boulder, Colorado. I've blogged about Heather's fine millinery couture before on Style Crone, and a recent trip to her studio revealed this beautiful silk organza ruffle hat which immediately landed on my head. I've also written about how I don't have to possess every stunning piece of headwear that I meet in my travels! Wearing it briefly and documenting the experience with a photo can be enough. And featuring its beauty on Hat Attack is frosting, which I can taste again. And again. By pulling
Every Saturday Mr J and I go out for breakfast, and for months we have made a ritual of shooting photos for Instagram as part of our weekend. During the week I search out backgrounds as I drive through the city, and If I don't have a location in mind by Saturday, there is spontaneity. Something always pops up that catches my eye. The pale blue hat in the photo above was created by the talented Juliane Gorman of Felt Happiness HERE. This weekend morning interlude sparks my creativity in a new way, and is a practice in playful interaction
In the past on Style Crone I've written about the importance of health and how it's my number one priority. I structure and weave my time around physical, emotional and mental self-care. However, no matter how much energy I put into creating a healthy lifestyle for myself, some things are beyond my control. I received the diagnosis of osteoporosis many years ago, and have tried several options to improve my bone density. However, my most recent numbers were disturbing and I know that I must do something more proactive to prevent fractures in the future. I'm researching and consulting with
Yoga is a component of the scaffolding of my life. It's as nourishing as the food that I eat. As restorative as sleep. As healing as the soothing presence of an empathetic friend. Yoga removes internal barriers and opens creative channels in my brain. It's the place where ideas for blog posts and outfits are born. It provides an opening for allowing the art of "letting go" of that which I cannot control, as I focus on the breath and the mindful awareness of a space in time. Over the years I've learned that however I'm feeling when I enter
April's Hat Attack was discovered in a vintage shop in Jerome, Arizona during my trip to Sedona in January. I was captivated by its intricate floral display in shades of blue and lavender, trimmed with a purple velvet ribbon. It represents the beginning of spring, with its whimsical bouquet. Though snow remains in Denver's City Park, a few flowering trees are beginning to reveal their first hint of spring's brilliant show. April's chapeau is an announcement of this year's season of renewal and new beginnings! Last week I learned that Style Crone had been hacked. I wouldn't have known but for a caring email from the fabulous blogger Alyson of That's Not My Age HERE, who noticed that when attempting to access my blog, she was diverted to an offensive site. I'm not sure how long this had been going on, and was horrified that it was happening. It felt invasive and out of control, and I immediately called the site which hosts my blog. After many days and hours of talking with the helpful and concerned staff at the hosting site, everything seems to
Every birthday offers a transition into a new era! Similar to passing through the New Year every January 1st, I feel an awakening that offers hope and renewal. I don't make resolutions or set in place a plan for the next 12 months, but I have been known to throw a huge party or travel to a location that is meaningful to me. It's the only day of the year that belongs just to me, and I love to celebrate with family and loved ones, creating memories that will be with me for a lifetime. This year was relatively quiet

Thank you to all of my followers and those who comment on Style Crone! Wearing vintage Norma Kamali leopard print cotton jacket. I am honored and thrilled to be included in the CNN website's piece on Ari Seth Cohen and his new book, Advanced Style: Older And Wiser HERE. The book will be out on April 26th, and is now available for preorder HERE. Linking up with Patti’s Visible Monday HERE at
Last week my beloved daughter Camille gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Cameron Nelson. Her husband Sean and I were present, and active participants in the extraordinary process of the arrival of new life into the world. I watched Camille with a sense of wonder, as she navigated the precarious waters of labor and welcomed her new son into her arms with her eyes wide and adoring. Her first words were, "He's perfect." And that he is. The moment of birth radiates with electric energy. Observing the first breath of life is as intimate as being present for the
During my most recent trip to Arizona I discovered this orange leather jacket at an estate sale. Like hats, I seem to find signs to my favorite shopping destination sprinkled across the landscape no matter the geographic location. I fell in love with everything about this jacket, but upon reading the Sunday New York Times Magazine on February 2nd, I learned that no amount of orange could change the fact that older women are not "seen" in our culture. The piece on "Erasure" HERE by Parul Sehgal HERE, an editor at The New York Times Book Review, had me with
On what felt like the coldest day of the year, Daniel and I traveled to Congress Park HERE, an area of Denver not far from my home. The day was overcast and gray and the newly fallen snow covered the ground as far as the eye could see. In an effort to stay warm, I ran through the snow in my boots, enveloped in layers covered by the colorful vintage maxi coat gifted by a friend many years ago. She found this vintage beauty hanging on her dumpster, and generously offered it to me, knowing that I would give it new
Before leaving for Sedona, I received a message from a friend and former co-worker about the death of the wife of a mutual colleague from the past. I put off the decision regarding my attendance at the memorial service until I returned from our trip. When I woke up on the morning of the funeral, I knew that I wanted to attend. And I'm glad that I did. I remembered clearly how important and comforting it was for me during my winter of grief, to have people show up from different eras of my life at a time of overwhelming
For years I've heard stories about the beauty and the vortex energy centers of Sedona, Arizona HERE. Believing that there's never a better time than now, Mr J and I left for a short stay in one of the most stunning places in the country. To celebrate my first visit to this location with breathtaking views, I chose to wear animal print, which always has a way of enhancing any experience. Daniel suggested that we check out the landscape at sunset from the site of the Sedona Airport. I had no idea that my tiger print coat would reflect the
Daniel's back! And off to City Park we went, in our usual festive mood when we're engaged with photography, laughing and amusing ourselves with inside jokes. It may be January, with its cold and snowy background, but I feel exhilarated and energized by the chill in the air and the stark beauty of winter. The news of my daughter Camille's pregnancy has been coloring my days since she announced this news months ago. Married in May and pregnant in June! We've been happily preparing ever since! The very end of February is the date of the arrival of new life.
Daniel's 103 year old mother died on New Year's Eve Day. In honor of her indomitable spirit, I threw on my New Year's Eve outfit and Mr. J and I traveled to the "Empathy" mural not far from my home. I've blogged about empathy before. About its power to enhance relationships and provide the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. About its capacity to facilitate healing during times of grief and loss. I dedicate this post to my friend and photographer Daniel and to his mother Dora, who has over the years impressed me with her life's
January's Hat Attack is a vintage fur felt chapeau with felt bow and trim by French designer Marcelle Agrellet, which was discovered at Fabulous Fannys HERE several years ago in NYC when shopping with Jean and Valerie of the Idiosyncratic Fashionistas HERE. Photos By Daniel The days have grown bitter cold, and sometimes grey without the brilliant light of the Colorado sun. The perfect time to wear my warmest hats and coats, and the multiple layers that offer protection from winter's stark presence. The beauty of every season can be more fully valued beneath a brim. I'm greeting 2016 "Hat On"
Photo By Daniel Daniel and The SC spent many hours together during the year, creating photos for Style Crone and learning through new experiences. Sometimes we discovered sites in Denver that provided interesting backgrounds or we stayed close to home. The location didn't matter! Rather, it was the fun and laughter that sparked our creativity. Thank you Daniel, for another year of glorious good times! This post will revisit a few of the highlights on Style Crone that made my life sing in 2015. Photo By Mr J Mr J and The SC began the year in Miami, enjoying the
Dan's back and his mother is doing better. He comes from resilience and longevity, and he brought all of that energy to our journey to the periphery of the Denver Botanic Gardens HERE on the day following a snow storm and a brief cold spell. The temperature allowed for the uncovering of layers in winter. I chose to wear the black vintage hat that I discovered at Off Broadway, the NYC boutique that was owned by the incredible Lynn Dell Cohen, featured many times on Ari Seth Cohen's Advanced Style HERE, who died this past year. The drapey skirt that
Over the past weeks my photographer Daniel has been spending precious time with his 103 year old mother who has been admitted to hospice in Wisconsin. My thoughts have been with him frequently as he moves through this painful and difficult process. I miss him as a friend and as the talented artist that I collaborate with weekly. However, the show must go on, and my daughter Camille was kind enough to join me at the new Wizard's Chest HERE, which opened recently at a new location. With phone in hand, she shot photos for today's post, as we took
