The SC prefers feathers to a face lift.

Valerie of the Idiosyncratic Fashionistas HERE spotted this hat in a photo of the hat room several months ago, and because of her comments, I decided to start out 2014 with a continuation of my feather ‘faze,’ and honor the long burnt ostrich allure of this Adolfo II vintage estate sale find.  It had never been worn, with its tag from the 1980’s hanging from its splendor.  Thank you Valerie, for the inspiration!

Photos By Daniel N

I returned late last evening from a spontaneous five-day visit to NYC. I realized that it had been over a year since I had hit the streets of the city that calls my name from afar when I’ve been gone too long.  It was the trip of my dreams and I will share my adventures as soon as the celebration of the New Year passes and 2014 is in full bloom.

Please display your hat, headwrap, headpiece, fascinator, hair flower, headband or other adornment for your head that you adore and give The SC a JANUARY HAT ATTACK and kindly link to Style Crone somewhere in you post.  I’m excited to see the beautiful creations that you share throughout the next week. Participation will be open through January 7th.

  1. When I laughed at these photos it wasn’t because they were funny but because they were too divine. My goodness – THAT is a hat. What a hat! But true to form, your presence can stand up to this marvel on equal terms. Now that’s something. Thanks to Daniel as well. Lovely photos. I’ll add my link soon to this party. Thanks, Judith. Happy New Year!

  2. I’m glad you prefer feathers to a facelift as you certainly are in no need of the latter!! Wonderful hat! Belated merry Christmas and Happy New Year Judith! x

  3. That is the *most* gorgeous hat, Judith. And I agree with V. that there’s no need for surgery on your lovely face. Hat Attack is so much fun, thank you for this, and Happiest of New Years to you. xox

  4. I will participate next Monday on the 6th, when I will publish a new post. With hat (in honour of you and your Hat Attack). This time you have chosen a very rare specimen of a hat. Wow… I have to see it a couple of times to get used to it.

  5. Only you could pull off that hat with such panache! It’s gorgeous; as are you.
You have singlehandedly cured my fear of wearing hats. Now I have so many I don’t know where to put them!
May 2014 bring you the very best of everything, Judith 😉

  7. All I can do is smile with glee to see today’s hat! It was made for intrigue and sophisticated ladies! happy new year to you and all.

  8. Happy New Year Judith! This black and white beauty is a fantastic start to 2014’s monthly Hat Attack. Thank you for hosting! My favourite shot is the black and white with your hands. Mysterious, dramatic, exquisite.

  9. My favourite is the last photo where you can see your fabulous smile through the curtain of feathers! This is such a showstopper of a hat – a magnificent start to a new year. I’ll get my act together this weekend and join you.

I can’t wait to hear about your NYC adventure!

  10. What a stunning hat, Judith! Such drama, such mystery! The perfect choice for the first Hat Attack of 2014. Looking forward to hearing about your NYC trip, I saw you with Allyson over on her blog.
Happy new year to you, my friend! xxxxx

  11. I can see this hat in a ’50’s Vogue shoot with Avedon. You’re the perfect model, along with Dovima!! Absolutely breathtaking.

Happy New Year, dear friend. Can’t wait to catch up. XXOO

  12. Happy Hatyear! Feathers akimbo, this hat entices a peak underneath. Ah, there it is, Judith’s smile. I hope you’re smiling this very minute!

  13. What a glorious hat! I too, have been dazzled by the poetics of feathered friends, both on birds, and displayed on hats! They truly add a bit of glamour. Yours is a marvel, as are you. Thank you for hosting this “top” notch event! xo.

  14. I am SO in love with this one. Aldolfo scores big time on this creation. You score for finding it! Thank you for linking up with 52 Pick-me-up! Have a Hatty 2014!

  15. So many wonderful hats already! And yours is so unusual. I can’t help but wonder if it can be worn in different ways – tilt the hat back on the head? Pin some feathers up off the face? Add some kind of brooch? Not that the hat doesn’t stand on its own the way it is, but it hides your beautiful face too much!

  16. Oh my! That hat is mystery incarnate. You could be absolutely anyone (anyone fabulous, not anyone anyone) and it’s impossible to see you and not want to know “Who?” “Who is she? What’s her secret?” I imagine you slipping elegantly past, leaving more questions than answers in your wake.

  17. Happy New Year, dear Judith! Thank you so much for inviting us to Hat Attack. Way to start it off exactly right with this incredible creation – a sublime mix of art and mystery and humour – no wonder it suits you so well! xo

  18. Now that’s an unforgettable hat. I don’t know if it was a gasp or a hah that came out at first glimpse. Way to go Judith, all out and then some! Outrageous and sublime. How does she do it?!

  19. It always amazes me how original and arty your hats are. This one is beautiful indeed. And I love your sentence “I prefer feathers to a facelift” haha, me too. Although I don’t have any yet. I have been disappointed with my own hat wearing, mainly because I have not been able to find any (summer) hats that tickled my fancy. I hope to do better this year and to finally join your hat attack with an original hat!
