This vintage hat with high crown and swooping brim, embellished with pheasant and marabou feathers, caught my eye from its perch high on a shelf in the hat room.  It was of course purchased at an estate sale years ago.  It was last worn at a dear friend’s birthday party, feathers flying on the dance floor.

Today, November 1st, is Nelson’s  birthday.  To have been well-loved and to have loved with all of my heart allows me to live my life to the fullest in this place in time.  I cherish my memories, moving forward, as he wanted me to do.  The love that I felt and feel for him will always remain with me.  My cells were profoundly rearranged and forever changed.  I feel his presence in the energy field that surrounds me, like the feathers that gracefully encircle my hat.

Please display your hat, headwrap, headpiece, fascinator, hair flower, headband or other adornment for your head that you adore and give The SC a NOVEMBER HAT ATTACK. I’m excited to see the beautiful creations that you share throughout the next week. Participation will be open through November 7th.

  3. Oooh what a stunner of a hat, and worn with such panache dear Judith! I adore the swooping feathers, very Lady Of The Manor! Sadly I have no hat to show this time but take my (metaphorical) hat off to all your lovely participants.

  4. What a gorgeous and classic hat! This is what pimps would aspire to, if only they realized that less is more. The shape, the accents, the lines – everything is just perfect!

Your attitude is inspiring in the way that you honor Nelson and life at the same time. Have a beautiful day!

  5. Judith, your beautiful words… when you speak of Nelson’s love, I relish it so much. I have never felt love like that from a man before and don’t even aspire to it at this point in time, but I so enjoy reading about your gift of love from him. Just so beautiful. xo

  6. This is such a great photo of you – the tilt of your head and the curve of the feather are perfect! Nelson would be so proud of how you have shaped a creative, inspiring life on your own. His love is still with you, and always will be.

I will be joining the Hat Attack this weekend!

  7. Your words about Nelson go right to my heart. Love doesn’t die. And you look so fabulous in your feathered hat, head high! I *may* have a hat this month, and after seeing all the glorious hat shops in NYC, I could become a convert : >

  8. You got me right in the heart with this one. The loving words about your dear husband and your SPECTACULAR hat are both art and true love combined!

  9. Nelson had such a great spark, the flash and the following dimming can be felt as an ache, even etched onto the beating heart of strangers. I “found” you via Nelson, I suppose. In those early posts- you two were collaborators, I could feel his warmth and presence. I could see from the corners of my eye, his sphere. He still lives here, in your cells, your home, your memories. His presence is still cherished, and the loss still rippling across a pond of networks, his handsome face, his heroic stance, and that blaze that first drew you to him, now shared and gratefully accepted by eyes, hearts and minds of others. Happy Birthday, Nelson, dear soul. Wishing you a blessed peace as your undimmed memories hurl around this planet for yet another year. xo. Bella

  10. Such a beautiful way to describe your love! Your hats are always fabulous, but this one has such attitude and grace about it. I love the memories wrapped up in it. Have a lovely weekend. xo Jennifer

  11. May your love live on! (So that would have made Nelson a Scorpio? I am one also; a good sign, no?~)

Love all these hats here and yours is very familiar–my mother had one almost identical. I don’t remember the color, but I do remember the pheasant feathers.

    xoxo

  12. Your words about Nelson touch my heart. He must’ve been an amazing man–
you look fabulous and just like you stepped out of a 40’ds movie in that hat–it’s just gorgeous!

  13. I adore your feathered hat and also the tribute you gave to your dear Nelson…how sweet your love was/is. Love is the greatest gift of all…I love that it permeated your soul and is with you forever! Thank you for this wonderful meme!

  14. Judith, thank you for inviting us to gather here, and much deeply-felt appreciation for your ongoing celebration of Nelson and your love. I am in awe of your magnificently feathered and sculpted hat as it highlights your incredibly beautiful presence.

  15. What a beautiful birthday tribute to your beloved Nelson. The hat is perfection on you and for this memorable day. Thinking of you and sending warm hugs your way. xoxo

  16. It feels right that a Hat Attack celebration falls on Nelson’s birthday. He’s forever an integral part of Style Crone and, as it grows, his energy is palpable. The profound love you shared still grows and reaches out to inspire and nourish your readers. Your hat is a proud salute to him. I’m guessing he’d love the attitude and flirtatiousness it suggests. 17. When you live in the hearts of others, you never die. Nelson remains as alive and as vibrant as ever with you sharing his memory with us. So glad to be part of Hat Attack and to know you. You look astoundingly elegant in your feathered titfer. xxx

  18. Judith, the hat is a beauty, and the photo is particularly stunning. I adore the sweep of the feather.
You are so right – the people we hold dear and love with all our hearts, a love which is deeply and entirely reciprocated, can never be completely gone. Nelson would be so, so proud of you. xxxx

  19. Such a beauty of a hat again. Do you ever run out of new original hats? It’s so good to read that you can celebrate Nelson’s birthday with lots of love and good memories…..

  20. This hat is a stunning piece. And I am so glad that you can look back on your life with Nelson in such a grateful way. Did you see the video of Fabulous Fashionatas that Sylvia of 40+Style featured? The way one of those women described how she got on after her beloved husband died, reminded me of you. Great video. Touching.

  21. A very happy birthday to Nelson! I recall him as such a dashing gentleman, and his presence and spirit definitely encircle you. Lovely hat, Judith! Thank you so much for hosting Hat Attack!

  22. Judith, you are a jewel with the heart of a queen and I just love you. You deserve nothing but love for the rest of your days and beyond. Nelson must have been a truly wonderful man and it makes me tear up to read your lovely remembrance of him.
Your hat is truly chic, and I must confess that seeing you in all of your stylish headgear has finally corrupted me. I have acquired five hats over the last ten days. I may need to speak to you about hat pins and the like very soon LOL!

  23. Judith, I’ve said this time and time again, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such an inspiration to us (me). The pure joy you radiate must be making Nelson so proud of you. It’s such a great reminder to know that when we say “I do” we are not marrying for our own happiness but to make the other person the most happy individual on earth. I can see you fulfilled this role.
Now to the hat, well, what is there to say but Lovely, Lovely, and Lovely. I thought of you as I carefully purchased my new hats. You made it so much easier to do so.

  24. It’s no secret that I’m jealous of lucky hat wearers, being possessed of an over-sized noggin myself and rarely able to wear most hats. This post is a real treat. Everyone looks so fabo, and you’ve all renewed my determination to find another hat that fits so I can participate! I’m also thinkin’ fascinator might be the way to go.

As always, you inspire me, Judith.
