The Vintage Studio, an enchanting shop in Minneapolis, held me hostage for several hours on an afternoon of adventure.  Whenever I travel, not only do I track down hat shops and milliners; I also explore the area’s vintage shops, antique markets, and sometimes I find consignment stores of interest.  Three pairs of $12 vintage clip-on earrings from a vast selection escaped with The SC, along with a hat that will reveal itself in the spring.  I’m sure these beauties will find the perfect outfit to embellish over the coming months or years.  I am easily seduced by color and movement in my accessories!

The studio is owned by Karen Kinney-McMullan HERE , who has a curated collection of beautiful pieces from the 50’s through the 80’s.  She moved from NYC to Minneapolis about a year ago, and combined her passion for vintage with her professional background in fashion design and trend forecasting to manifest her creation.  Karen’s mantra is, ‘Vintage is for everybody!  Because every trend recycles, anyone can work vintage into their wardrobe, even if it’s just jewelry.’  The Style Crone wholeheartedly agrees!

  1. And I am eyeing those hats up on her shelf….mmmm.
The clip ons are so fun–great colors. And I agree–if one is afraid of vintage, just a touch will do!

  2. I’ll look for the shop the next time I’m in the Twin Cities. Vintage shopping has always been a pleasure, but sadly several of the shops in my city have closed in recent months. So many small businesses struggle to keep the doors open, which is even more reason to support these efforts. — A call to action should be to frequent local vintage enterprises.

  3. This shop seems like a treasure trove. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in such a shop. They are extremely difficult (if not impossible) to find here, but will look out for them more. I’m certainly visiting the vintage shops next time when I’m in Europe!

  4. I love hearing about your travels to meet the creative people you are discovering. Angela and her hats are gems as is “The Vintage Studio”. I recently visited the Stephen Jones hat exhibition at the Bard Graduate Center in NYC and all I could think of is how much you would love it (I hope your travels bring you to NYC to see it).

Last evening I went to a book signing and talk at NY’s Fashion Institute of Technology given by Charlotte Smith. She has written 2 wonderful books “Dreaming of Dior” and “Dreaming of Chanel” about a vintage clothing collection she inherited from her godmother Doris Darnell. She also had a few vintage dresses including a Vionnet. She brings such excitement to the vintage world.

  5. Hey, you used to write magnificent, but the last few posts have been kinda boring… I miss your great writings. Past several posts are just a little bit out of track! come on!

  6. I’ve been wanting to get larger, more colorful earrings and your post inspires me to get going instead of just wishing. Must go out hunting for them tomorrow!
