Hat Attack #67: Milli Star
February’s Hat Attack is this alluring veiled headpiece by Milli Star , a hat brand created by milliner Laura Del Villaggio, which is located in Austin, Texas. I have an affinity for veils, and I love how this piece creates instant glamour, and can be paired with so many pieces from my collection that allow its mystery to be enhanced.
This ostrich feather vest, which was discovered at an estate sale, had been waiting for an outing. The veiled headpiece was up to the challenge, and along with the estate sale rhinestone adorned long black gloves and vintage rhinestone jewelry, this ensemble was ready for a night out on the town.
MILLINER: LAURA DEL VILLAGGIO
In 1999, I earned a Certificate in Millinery from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, while concurrently studying for a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies: Costume & Textiles. FIT’s prestigious program offered two years of hands-on training that formed a solid base for my millinery career. In addition, I have an extensive background in fashion and textiles, from apparel design to textile chemistry and conservation. I have worked as a vintage clothing store manager, fiber arts instructor, collections research associate, theater costume designer, and milliner. Milli Starr has been my full-time career since 2012 and I am proud to have built an award-winning hat brand with an international reputation….Milli Star website

The Milli Star millinery atelier is brimming with antique and custom wooden hat blocks, silk flowers, feathers, and exquisite velvet and grosgrain ribbons. Two seasonal collections are made every year, plus numerous custom orders for clients around the world. If I ever land in Austin, Texas, Milli Star will be the first stop on my itinerary!

Love! Surely you always!!turn heads!
Stunning Ensemble. Your proportions are glorious.
Absolutely stunning
I have never worn hats and am quite envious of women who can pull them off.
Always look forward to your posts
Your style is incredible

Oh this is so wonderful, Judith. I wore a vintage black veil for my wedding paired with a vintage velvet half hat. I recently shared a few photos from my wedding day in a post on my anniversary. I will link that post here but I don’t think the headwear is all that visible in the photos.

Elegance is your own special word. You had me with those jeweled gloves. Thank you for showing us how to do old Hollywood glamour. Judy
Wonderful, glamorous photos! And so nice to see Laura’s work featured – she’s amazing!
What a glorious combination of textures you’re wearing, Judith. I’d say you can’t get better than that. But I know you always do, over and over again. Somehow. wow.
Wow, that is a lovely hat, Judith, and the ostrich feathers are divine. You look wonderful 🙂
You look fabulous. it’s a joy to look at these photos. You’ve inspired me to have another try at hat wearing (other than a bobble hat rammed on my head for a cold dog walk). It’s an art, I guess, but my goodness you’ve mastered it!
So elegant and glamourous Judith! I love the veiled headpiece, and the ostrich feather vest is beautiful! I watched a TV programme last night about hat making in Luton (a town in the UK) and it was so fascinating seeing a group of people make different styles of hats with traditional tools and machinery.
