I feel a reluctance to ‘let go’ of winter and leap forward into spring.  Usually The SC loves the transition to spring with its unfolding displays of crocuses, daffodils, and tulips in quick and breathtaking succession.  This year I want time to stand still so as not to witness each small loss as the days pass.  A new symptom, a small functional change, anything that points towards Nelson’s disease progression. So instead of eagerly jumping into spring colors today, I chose the color blue to mirror my mood.  At the last minute, I impulsively added a polka dot scarf to the mix to indicate that the change of seasons is here and it’s truly not within my control.

  1. I know that feeling, too. That colour looks so beautiful on you and the styling perfect, accentuating your gorgeous figure. xxx

  2. What a lovely outfit! I love the cut and colour of the coat and I like seeing people wear hats. After a whole winter complaining how cold it is I find myself reluctant to let go of it too bizarrely enough – I think that stems from the fact that it was actually too cold most of the season to wear the winter things I actually love wearing, and now that it is warming up enough to wear them I’m supposed to store them away to wear Spring clothes for which it is still too cold!

  3. I so wish I could make things better for you both. You know, though, at least you and Nelson have known the kind of love few of us get to have. I am sure that and your beautiful self help to make his days better. Love to Nelson.

  4. I agree with Judi above. Living each moment fully makes each day fuller. You are a grand mentor for all of us.
Thinking of you in Amsterdam now, Zurich next week, then back to Abu Dhabi–where it is never winter!

  5. I love the way you express yourself, with the written word, with your style and I am sure there are more that exist beyond the scope of this blog.
    best always,
    Robin

  6. Though I have not been following you for long, my observations would suggest that you and Nelson have been living in an eternally spring state of mind for many, many wonderful years.

  7. SC, I aspire to your clear-eyed honesty, your wise and graceful acceptance, and your extraordinary ability to convey those qualities in spare and beautiful language.
Also love your wardrobe and your husband. 🙂

  8. What a beautiful jacket. It has a wonderful color. I can understand this wanting to make the season pause a bit.

  9. When I first saw your post, I was wondering, how the heck can someone want to hang onto winter….now I understand.

And I second the motion: you can rock those skinny jeans!!!
