Hat Attack #56

March 1st, 2018

The Hat Attack for March is a dark brown fur felt confection trimmed with feathers by milliner Jennifer Hoertz HERE.  I discovered this beauty at The Hat Shop NYC HERE about 18 years ago.  I love how the feathers cascade from the hat and frame the face.  It plays nicely with my faux fur-trimmed vintage cape.

I’ve become discouraged with maintaining the Hat Attack link-up. Participation has decreased and I haven’t put the energy into keeping it alive. Hat Attack is on life support!  I have several ideas to pursue to move forward, but I have considered publishing a monthly Hat Attack without a link-up.  Over the next two months I will focus on energizing the link-up and make a decision from there.

Any feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated.  My original goal was to share my love for headwear and provide a space for the celebration and wearing of hats.  I am grateful for all the hat lovers who have participated over the years. New projects have diverted my attention, but not my original passion. Life is change and learning when to refocus or “let go.”

Now it’s your turn to throw a little headwear my way. Give The SC a MARCH HAT ATTACK and kindly link to Style Crone somewhere in your post. The link-up will be open through March 31st.

Anyone can participate in the celebration of headwear!  Click on the blue link-up button and there are a number of ways to share your photo from your blog, Instagram or your computer photo files.  All forms of headwear are appreciated:  hat, headwrap, headscarf, headpiece, fascinator, hair flower, headband or other adornment for your head that you enjoy.  Multiple photos are encouraged!

Life is certainly an evolution, but even if you do let the hat attack go, Judith. I want you to know that you have been such an inspiration to me to wear my hats and buy more!!
Even my mom, above is getting into the spirit!!

Another beautiful hat showcased here, Judith! Oh I hope you can revive the Hat Attack link up! I do love seeing all the fabulous hats that people share here. I just shared a post featuring all the link ups that I join which includes Hat Attack on it, so maybe that will help spread the word about this amazing link up! But, of course, that life is change and sometimes we must move on, too. But you will always have a follower here with or without a link up.

I’m not sure I know the difference between “hat attack” and your regular fashion postings, which almost always include glorious hats. So as a reader I’m assuming that if you choose not to go forward with “hat attack” we will still see those wonderful hats and learn about them in your blog post. I have a daughter who adores hats. She has since she was a tiny girl and I bought the first bright blue felted cloche hat for her from Benetton. She wore it for years. As an adult she returned to hat wearing as a convenience for busy days as a photographer and now it’s a style choice almost everyday, and part of her personal look. I believe Meredith knows your photographer. I’ve send her some of your posts to enjoy. Thanks for what you do!

Hey Judith! Love the hats and love that you are “re booting”! I have been MIA myself lately with a new tweak to my business yet again.. I don’t have that beautiful face and bone structure that looks good with hats … but just for you I will link a photo in March! I can’t wait to catch up … I love you and miss you my elegant and beautiful queen and forever muse! XOX

I remember one of the reasons I started blogging about style a couple of years ago was because I wanted to participate in Hat Attack. Those of us who love hats will always love hats, even if you decide not to have a linkup anymore. Ultimately, it has to be what suits you at this moment of your life because things always change.

Yesterday, I was at Amina’s studio and picked up a new creation and will try to share it this month so in case you stop the linkup you can see another one of her beauties!

I do think a monthly niche linkup is a bit harder. I’ve been doing a monthly linkup celebrating my love of slow fashion and originally was only going to do it for a year. The decision to carry on or pull the plug will be soon upon me too. Take care, Judith-you are always an inspiration.

I always enjoy seeing your posts and will continue to follow along whether you have a link up or not. Your style of writing is soothing to me. Please keep that part up! But take a break if needed.

I think that bloggers in general are finding it difficult to maintain their blog and audience. Blogging is waining even if we don’t like to admit it.

I do know that you are thriving on IG so maybe that is where you should focus your energies.

I’ve always loved hat attack and enjoyed participating. You are always an inspiration Judith.

Judith, How I love your posts! I am a 65 year young fashionista and enjoy seeing you in all your regalia! Your pictures never fail to bring a smile. Also a hat lover, I have about 50 assorted chapeau. Keep up the good work!

    Hi Judith,

Clearly, your true love is hats, but the hats are always just part of beautiful and unique vintage ensembles that I love seeing. Another aspect of your blog is your writing and the sensibilities behind it — wonderful to read. This would be mostly lost on Instagram, with less text. I would want to read your blog whether or not you continue to host a link-up.

I’m late to your party and love the hats. I h e everlasting from hubby’s grandmother that are stunning!!! I also have his mother’s Mouton jacket. I wish I could get brave enough to wear them. Whatever you decide to do, please keep me in the loop.

I always enjoy your hat attacks. The hats, the photos, the thoughts are beautiful and uplifting. Thanks for all you have done to show the beauty of the older woman.

I am sorry to hear this Judith. You did inspire me to try hats last year but it just isn’t me. It is an art form that requires more than just a hat. You need clothes and coats to match the hat, you need space in your house to store everything. And you need hair to compliment the hat. For me that is not possible on any of this. So I quit hats again.

Oh Judith I’m so sorry you’re feeling that Hat Attack is declining. I have adored participating. Your writing and the photographs have been such an inspiration for me. I also adore the Hat Attack linkup and usually write a ‘hat special’ for it. I’ll be putting up two (or maybe three) links this month, as todays is just the Norwegian pom-pom hat I’ve been wearing all through our blast of cold weather. And then over the weekend I’ll do a feature on a hat I bought for exceptional cold weather. In fact I’d say you are probably the reason I have so many hats! Because you’ve not only developed my eye for hats you’ve acted as a role model for me so that I feel confident enough to wear hats at events where others do not.

Interesting that Suzanne is saying that blogging is in decline. I’ve heard this before and listened to it as one should always be aware of trends and take note. Everyone apparently is going towards Instagram. I don’t entirely feel comfortable on Instagram as yes, there are a lot of beautiful photos on it. But, for me I’m saying where’s the writing as writing is the thing for me. I will therefore never give up my blog, which continues to increase in numbers of followers. However, I agree with you that one must always move on and not be afraid to grasp change. So I am thinking about how to refresh. Yes, never stand still I agree with that. But never forget Judith – you have been and still are an inspiration. And I admire you so much – so good luck with the future, I’ll be with you on this. But for now – I still enjoy the linkups very much and thank you for them.

    With love x

And I didn’t say, your hat is just lovely x

I love that cape and that spectacular hat, Judith.

I’m sorry that participation in Hat Attack is waning. Like others have mentioned, there’s a general decline in blog commentating of late. I suppose people find it easier to leave a little symbol on IG than log in and write a meaningful comment on a blog. Each to their own, I suppose. xxxx

Judith that hat and cape are amazing!

Like Terri I was inspired to take up blogging because I wanted to be one of the “cool kids” on Hat Attack. I’ve always loved hats but your blog and Hat Attack inspired me to take my own style one step further. Oh I how appreciate that.

I totally understand the turn to the visual. Between pinterest and instagram (among others) it seems like words are getting lost in a blur of pictures. But darnnit, some of us are word people. Savoring words, savoring writing. As someone else said, above, all this would be lost on instagram. Yes, we would get gorgeous pix but not interesting (and sometimes brave) writing that goes behind it. I mourn the loss of words in our visually dominant society.

But, I will keeping following you no matter what you do. Just want to reinforce that I have appreciated both your blog and Hat Attack. I believe there’s a place for both. But I understand we evolve, and so does our work and creativity.

As always, the outfit (and your wearing of it) is impeccable.

    Thank you Judith.

Have tried to upload several photos to the link up but it will not let me load anymore than the first one – have checked the help button but it doesn’t – help, I mean!

I love reading your blog and love your stylish way with both hats and outfits.

    Dear Judith,

Whatever you decide will be right for you.
Things change and Time moves on.

Darn it woman, is there ANY colour that doesn’t look good on you?? 😉 As Suzanne has mentioned, it seems that engagement via blogs is on the wane, but I am still plugging away as are several of my blogger friends. I always love seeing your Chapeau of the Day, so even if you decide to abandon the “hat attack” link up, we will still get to enjoy your mind-boggling collection of headwear.
