Cocktail hat, headpiece, fascinator!  These words are music to my ears.  I love how they perch on the head, with their flirty and fun-loving ways.  They serve no function but to top off an outfit with playfulness and whimsy, and only exist for the purpose to adorn and provide self entertainment.

I discovered this vintage black velvet cocktail hat trimmed with feathers at an antique market, and out the door with The SC for dinner with a friend it went.  One of my favorite things to do!  Discovering new restaurants is like theatre and engages the senses. The animated conversation with a friend, the other patrons, the food, the servers and the atmosphere.  Accessorized with a glass of wine!

I also have a fascination with vintage gloves, in case you haven’t noticed.  For next to nothing, over the years I have collected an assortment that allows choices for almost any outfit that I choose to compose.  In this case, these gloves reflected one of the vibrant colors included in the floral silk scarf that was purchased at an estate sale several months ago.  Vintage estate sale earrings add to the flow.

The first snowfall of the season is significant, transforming my garden and everything in sight with its presence.  It’s a marker for change and moving forward.  Cleansing everything in sight for a short time, with its soft fluffy ground cover.

How did I let the snow arrive without completing the fall garden clean up?  Putting together outfits takes time and I do have my priorities.

Lovely hat, as always.I love the little feathers detail!
It’s snowing there already! I suspect it might not be too long here in the UK… I’m dreading it, if I’m honest.
I’m looking forward to the next Hat Attack – I’ll make sure I have something to share 🙂

I must try this time and join you for hat Attack, my dear Jdith.
The way you talk about hats and facinatos and headpieces make me want to try.
You are beutiful beyond words and the snow makes you look like an angel.

You and Lady Diana are having entirely too much fun! The colors are great and the settings delightful. And you both are even more entertaining in person!

    Snow already? Argghh!
Thank goodness for fun photos with friends, gorgeous and frivolous hats and wine as a stylish accessory! You look gorgeous, I love the feathery confection on your head, those glorious gloves and how vibrant that lovely scarf is! xxx

Beautiful, as always Judith. You are truly a snow angel!! Love how you brought in the colorful scarf!

  6. Tamera the Menopausal Supermodel

How fabulous are you in the snow!! I love the bright scarf against the black!!!

  7. Patti @ NotDeadYet Style

Love this cocktail hat – even the name sounds so grown-up and festive. You look gorgeous in mostly-black with shots of brilliant color. And snow! I miss it.

  8. une femme

That hat is really something special! You look ready for all of the season’s festivities. Love how you’ve accessorized with the bright scarf and gloves.

Oh, pictures of snow bring about so many emotions!! I associate it with my childhood in New England, with my young adulthood in upstate NY and Philadelphia, and my life-altering time in Vermont, which is where I met Joey. Snow is magical and beautiful, yet it can be melancholy too, in it’s pristine quiet. It can be festive around the holidays, or something to freeze you in your tracks. Sometimes all of these. I seldom see it now, being in the South. I miss looking through pine trees to the blue sky when the ground is twinkling with freshly fallen snow. I miss having my nostrils stick together because of the frigid temperatures, or the snow underfoot sounding like styrofoam, it’s so cold.

Your spectacular pictures brought all this back in a rush. I don’t think I ever looked quite as glamorous as you do but I’d like to think that at this stage of my life, I might be able to. All I need now is some snow and some fabulous Fluevogs. You look utterly amazing in your gorgeous colors and saucy hat. I wish I was there to share a great dinner out and a little thrifting. Love you!! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🙂

I love the way you bring the colors together – they look like fire against the snow. And that coat looks very chic and hip at the same time. It’s a good thing you have your priorities straight so you can go to all those estate sales!

I love how you mix your outfits. They feel modern and vintage at the same time and this is an unique talent. This hat has just the right amount of feathers to my eye. Such a beautiful coat, oh this is a keeper. No snow here in MN yet. We still need to trim our trees in the yard so tomorrow is the day. Have a great week!

I love the colours in your scarf Judith! And your cocktail hat is charming and flirty. Snow! Snow! Snow! No snow here, but you paint a romantic picture of the first snowfall…

How I have missed you dear Judith! So very happy to visit you today … for many reasons …

First … a cocktail hat … I can’t believe I haven’t even tried one …and now I must! How very fabulous you look!

Yep, and now I need to add gloves to my collections … as they too have been absent in my ensembles … but the idea has been percolating for a while … and seeing you with yours … I am sold!!

Lastly, I love visiting your blog, most importantly, for your positive and invigorating view on life! You always fill me with hope, creativity and a joie de vive!

Much love and thanks to you!

We got at least a foot and a half of snow over the weekend, so winter is officially here! The colours in the scarf, and your matching gloves are beautiful, and play wonderfully off the black background of your outfit. Your perpetual elegance, even when dressing for winter always delights and inspires me.

Thanks so much for your comment on my last NY post – I try to make my stories interesting for my readers without going on and on, which is easy to do about New York 😉

  15. Rebecca

How lovely you look in the snow. It is very gloomy and overcast today in NYC so I loved seeing how pretty the snow looks. Happy Thanksgiving to you, dear Judith and to Camille. As for me, I am always thankful for your wonderful posts that have delighted and inspired me over the years.

  16. Suzanne

The contrast with the white snow, the black ensemble and then the bright scarf and gloves is just wonderful. Wearing brights through the winter months should really be mandatory.

  17. Maureen

Love Style Crone – but I have velvet coat envy as I have always wanted one.

  18. Curtise

Judith, that cocktail hat is perfection, such a wonderful chic contrast with your hair. The stylish black outfit looks so good with the vivid scarf, gloves and earrings, just lovely.
Snow? I don’t want to have lots here this winter, but I do love seeing it in other people’s photos! Keep warm, my friend! xxx

  19. Carol Markel

    I adore that magenta scarf!
    Happy Thanksgiving!!!

  20. Maureen

You look so lovely Judith, always so chic and individual.

We have no snow, it is unusual in the South of England until January – but we never know!

  21. Amber of Butane Anvil

So elegant, from your feathered hat and bright sprays of colour to your gorgeous Fluevogs. Priorities are spot-on. 😉 I’m looking forward to Hat Attack – always such a highlight!

  22. SizzleandZoom

How did I miss this absolutely gorgeous outfit until now? I would wear this in a heart beat however I would not look as stunning as you do.

  23. Greetje Kamminga

I nearly missed this one. Very elegant. A lovely addition to your collection.
I have to try and find out where they sell vintage hats and the such here in The Netherlands. You are making me enthousiastic about hats.
    PS…. snow???

  24. fashmr paul

wow – I just adore your outfit !! its lovely

  25. Melanie

Okay, your hat is DEFINITELY flirty, but I also love the flirty little way you’re wearing your scarf. There something about you in this outfit in the snow that is like a charming movie. I’m glad you have your priorities right! And wine is one of the best accessories, more sweet (or dry) when shared with friends. Too right!

  26. Anne the SpyGirl

    You make me miss snow!
Love, love, love the brights with the black. The hat is so sweet and has such personality.
Thanks for linking up with 52 Pick-me-up!
