The Snowstorm of 2012

Vintage blue wool coat with faux persian lamb trim – gifted, jewels – estate sales, vintage black handmade wool fabric hat – vintage shop, knee high all weather black leather boots – retail winter sale.

This past weekend brought snow that covered everything in sight.  The SC was entranced with the softly falling blanket of white.  Even though I felt like staying home in my warm sanctuary, I was driven to continue with my schedule; the structure that keeps me moving.  Why allow an intense winter storm to cloud my internal vision?  I fear immobilization, lethargy, the couch.  The possibility that I could stiffen in a single position and not get up for days.

I was rewarded by this quote from my yoga teacher – ‘Create the self that you will be happy to live with for the rest of your life, fanning the tiny inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.’  This phrase was held closely in my thoughts for the remainder of the cold and snowy day, as I wandered into the winter coat inventory looking for a small fiery particle of inspiration.  I realized that this gifted blue winter coat had never been worn, so as soon as the snow stopped falling, I took it out into the grey, frigid but quietly beautiful day.  With the embellishment of jewels!

Whoa. The quote “Create the self that you’ll be happy to live with for the rest of your life…” hits home with me. That is what I’ve been working on, am doing right now. It’s been hard, a struggle to stay focus on the essential, the necessary for well being and let everything else go. Still in the thick of things but have recently decided to uproot, follow my heart in the name of being true to my truest self. I’m creating the person I want to be, the best of what I can be.
Speaking of best, your bright eyes, and blue coat are the jewels in your snowy panarama.

Is there nothing that you can’t wear and look a million dollars in? How gorgeous you look in the blue coat with that dazzling smile. I, too, love that quote: “create the self you will be happy to live with”. I fear many people just get by and don’t ever take the time nor investigate who they would really like to be.

Much love from England, where it is also cold,

What a wonderful quote and affirmation! You look smashing in your blue coat! That snowstorm seemed to miss the mountains entirely, it seems.

I love it when you wear blue. Your yoga teacher’s quote is an inspiring one. I’ll be thinking about it today.

I’ve just copied that quote down and it’s pinned to my noticeboard, what an incredible person your yoga teacher is, I’m so glad you shared their wisdom.
You look incredible, a splash of brilliant colour against the blanket of snow.
I think you and I are rather alike, I hate to feel confined. xxx

Just came across your blog. You are stunning, fabulous and inspirational. And I am still in shock at your ‘real’ age. I assumed you were in your early forties at the very most…. Amazing! I am now Hooked!

  9. Rebecca

What a delightful photo of you in that beautiful blue coat. The quote is now in my
    journal, definitely worth memorizing.

When I heard the reports of the heavy snow hitting your area, I wondered what it would inspire in your attire. — I love the fullness of this coat. The folds in the fabric are lovely, and one can easily wear layers under this sillouette for extra warmth. — Like several others, I too find the quote you share to have meaning that fits what I am working through these days. I find that I am reinventing myself, and indeed my goal is to find a direction that inspires and motivates me to be the self to which I have always aspired. Detours have taken me from the most direct path, but I take unanticipated experience and knowledge with me as I reorient myself to get back on track.

‘Create the self that you will be happy to live with for the rest of your life, fanning the tiny inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.’ My quote now too. Thank you. That is it exactly. Where is this yoga teacher, I would love to take class with her! C

“Create the self you’ll be happy with…” oh thanks so much for sharing that. I needed to hear that & want this to be my mantra for 2012. Great!

Love you in this shade of blue. Really makes your eyes GLOW. It looks like a swing coat, is it? Lovely. And bully for you to KEEP MOVING. Many times that cold weather, and blankets of snow, lovely as it is, can freeze us in our figurative tracks. But how right you are that with beauty (and a little bling) we are armed and ready to move forward into the rest of our lives.

I love your courage and unique perspective on this, and how brilliantly you use fashion as inspiration, as sustenance, as fuel. You help me see things differently.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend —

I love you blog wery much.

Hi Judith, I understand your pain and the feeling of not wanting to stay on the couch; after your loss it is so easy to drift into depression and get stuck. You have still so much grieving to do so don’t be too hard on yourself. Your beautiful smile lights up the day for others but you have a dark cloud with you. I hope you are getting help you need. Love and best wishes, June.

  25. SizzleandZoom

I love the jewels!(on your hat!?)

  26. Terri

The coat is just so elegant and beautiful. I have to admire your get up and go. Even with a living partner, I tend to want to stay home in weather like this and make a huge pot of soup. You are intrepid.

  27. Karen

I stumbled across your blog while reading something else, and I am so happy that I did. You look amazing! You have the kind of beauty that shines from the inside. The coat is fabulous too!

  28. Desiree

Oh well done for saying no to the couch!!! I don’t think I could have done it, but if I had your glorious coat and jewels to play with I think I’d be everywhere at once to show off such beautiful finery:)) xoxo
